With more than a decade of experience in lighting design, what truly excites me about lighting is its quiet, ethereal quality — often overlooked yet incredibly powerful. It's not only a dynamic medium for artistic expression, but also vital for human health and the well-being of both plant and animal life.
With international and local experience spanning hospitality, civic, master planning, landscape, façade, workplace, urban, and residential sectors, I believe in the crucial role of thoughtful architectural lighting design. Lighting not only sets the tone of a space, but also deeply impacts the emotions and behaviours of its occupants.
My passion lies in designing architectural lighting that shapes a space's atmosphere, highlighting the features and elements that define its identity. Through visual cues, I tell the story of a place and guide the visual journey. I see lighting design as a harmonious blend of art, science, and well-being.

Thoughtfully controlled, glare-free illumination enhances visual comfort and reduces eye strain, allowing occupants to remain engaged and productive for longer periods. Re-imagined from commercial office tower to purpose-built student accommodation, 41 George Street now provides 1,182 beds in the heart of Brisbane CBD. It stands as a smart response to Brisbane's housing demand and a genuinely sustainable vision for the site's future.
The redevelopment went beyond the interior, aiming to reconnect the building with the city, the river, and the sandstone cliffs nearby. m3 architecture captured this beautifully, shaping the front plaza's sandstone into forms that echo the cracked, weathered texture of the river cliffs.
The lighting design was crafted to bring this concept fully to life. Pole-mounted accent spotlights, set to a warm 2700K colour temperature, were carefully positioned to graze across the sandstone plaza. They draw out its texture, its crackled formation, and the natural warmth of the stone itself — almost as if the light were revealing the cliff's own character rather than simply illuminating it.
This same 2700K warmth wasn't confined to the plaza; it was deliberately extended across every part of the development, interior and exterior alike, so the entire building reads as one continuous, welcoming atmosphere rather than a series of disconnected spaces. The same accent poles were fitted with additional general lighting spotlights, providing everyday illumination to the plaza without introducing new fixtures or visual clutter, keeping the space clean and considered.
The building's exterior lighting extended this same restraint upward, to the masts along George and Margaret Streets. These were lit to enhance the building's presence at night and help orient people moving through the surrounding streets.
Recognising that 41 George Street is visible from Southbank's riverside promenade and glimpsed through sightlines near Queen's Wharf, the design used a mono colour strategy to blend with the city view rather than compete with the adjacent developments.
River House is a multi-residential luxury development on the Brisbane River. The lighting scope encompassed building entries, driveways, amenities, and the riverfront façade and landscape.
Positioned directly on the water with sweeping views from the iconic Story Bridge across to Howard Smith Wharves, New Farm, and down Humbug Reach, these full-floor residences are defined by privacy and tranquillity.
The façade's canopy features a wavy structure inspired by the shape of the river and the ripple of water. The lighting design responds to the project's architectural, functional, and atmospheric requirements — highlighting the wavy canopy as it wraps the building from street side to riverfront, while accentuating the landscape below. Low-level, glare-free handrail lighting ensures safe movement throughout, and a sense of tranquillity is reinforced through pool-edge integrated lighting and the soft reflected glow of tree uplighting.
Federal is a mixed-use retail and residential development that pairs the sensitive renovation of a heritage building with a striking new residential tower. At street level, retail spaces, driveways, and urban circulation zones are woven together with inviting seating areas. Above, a rooftop residential retreat features a swimming pool, seating pods, and cooking areas nestled within lush landscaping.
Working alongside Ellivo Architects, whose brief called for a conservative, heritage-led approach, the lighting design is conceived to honour the architect’s vision — celebrating the heritage façade as the true focal point of the precinct. Diffused, arched wall lights — doubling as retail signage — are intended to gently graze the brick surface, revealing the building’s character in a respectful and considered manner.
Unison Projects and Feltham Property Group brought a clear ambition to this development: to create a precinct that feels elevated and cohesive, where heritage and contemporary living coexist with care. The lighting responds to that vision directly — layering landscape, functional, and architectural lighting across every level of the building, with glare carefully controlled throughout to ensure comfort across all amenity spaces.
On Level 1, a curved linear lighting effect will trace the flowing form of sculptural planters, while pixelated LED technology introduces a slow, dynamic play of light — bringing subtle movement and atmosphere to the space. Lighting plays a dual role throughout: delivering essential safety and security across walkways, driveways, and parking areas, while creating a theatrical, resort-like atmosphere within the residential amenity spaces above.
A consistent 2700K colour temperature is applied across the entire scheme, unifying the residential and retail precincts while reinforcing the warm, intimate quality of the space after dark. Notably, the creative lighting design secured DA approval — a critical milestone that validated the scheme early.
Round-the-clock industrial and utility control rooms present a unique lighting challenge: operators are exposed to sustained artificial lighting across day and night shifts, often from blue-rich LED sources that can disrupt the human circadian rhythm. Left unmanaged, this disruption alters the timed release of melatonin and cortisol — hormones that regulate metabolism, immune function, and cellular processes.
For a major Australian energy provider's 24/7 control room, the brief called for a WELL-compliant circadian lighting environment. The site presented compounding constraints: a ceiling height of just 2.6 metres, zero daylight access, and the need for individual workstation control — all without compromising the automated circadian signal shared across the room.
Light Rhythm & Motion designed the solution around a spectrally engineered LED system measured in Equivalent Melanopic Lux (EML) — weighted to the eye's non-image-forming photoreceptors (ipRGCs) rather than traditional visual lux. During the day, a blue-enriched spectrum at high melanopic lux mimics natural daylight and supports alertness. As night falls, the spectrum automatically transitions to a blue-suppressed, low melanopic-lux output — reducing the 480nm wavelength most responsible for melatonin disruption, so the body's natural hormonal cycle can proceed unimpeded.
A Bluetooth mesh control network gave each operator individual brightness control at their station, while keeping the circadian spectrum fully automated and locked to the day-night cycle — so its biological benefits could never be overridden by manual adjustment. Custom glare guards managed the challenge of the low ceiling height without sacrificing the vertical melanopic lux levels required at eye level.
The result is a WELL-compliant circadian lighting environment that overcomes a low ceiling, zero daylight access, and demanding glare-control requirements — protecting operator health and wellbeing across round-the-clock shift operations.
